Gastroenterology is the specialty of medicine concerned with diseases of the digestive tract (esophagus, stomach, gallbladder, small and large intestines, colon, liver, and pancreas), and is one of several subspecialties of internal medicine.  A gastroenterologist is typically called upon in cases of abdominal pain or discomfort in which the diagnosis is unclear or where specialized medical care is needed.

Disorders of swallowing, gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD), ulcer disease, chronic hepatitis, and bowel disturbances including colitis and Irritable Bowel Syndrome(IBS) represent some of the problems where a gastroenterologist's opinion might be sought.

Our group offers expertise in endoscopic evaluation of the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, biliary tract, pancreas, and colon.

With the recent emphasis in early detection and treatment of colo-rectal cancer, our group, which was the first to introduce Colonoscopy to the Washington Metropolitan Area, provides outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy in our convenient Endoscopic Centers and area hospitals.
